Be all that you can be....for the Lord!!!

I want to be the best I can be. The best "what" you might ask? Those of you that know me would probably say, guitar player. That is true but not what I was going for here. Some might say, a father and dad. Again, true, just not what I was going for. I am talking about,*drumroll*, I want to be the best christian I can be!!! It was pretty obvious I know. I have been so convicted lately. My heart has been burdened with the thought that people, people I know and don't know, are going to hell. What am I doing about it? Have I shared the truth of the Law and the Gospel with these people? God forgive me! I want to put into action what Christ has put in my heart.

If you are reading this and have never heard the Gospel before let me share it with you now. The Bible says that we are sinners. We have violated the Laws which God gave us. These are called the Ten Commandments. We are to use these as a mirror to see if we are in line with His standards. The thing is, none of us are. For example, How many lies have you told in your life? Quite a few I'm sure. The Bible says we are liars. Have you ever stolen anything regardless of value? If you have then you are a thief. Have you ever commited adultery? No? Listen to what Jesus said. He said,"If you look at a woman to lust after her you have commited adultery with her in your heart. Just the thought of doing something is as bad as actually doing it, in God's eyes.

If you were to die in that state, God would give you justice for breaking His laws. He is Pure, Holy, and Just in all His ways. You would end up in hell on the day of judgement. The Bible says that all liars will have their place in the lake of fire. It also states that no theif, no adulterer will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. This is some hard stuff. But this is the Gospel, that 2000 years ago God became man and took upon Himself the punishment meant for us. If you would repent, meaning turn from your sinning, and put your trust in Jesus to save you, you will be saved. Do that today because we are not garaunteed tomorrow.

The title of today's entry is something I have been struggling with for quite a while. I have to say, I am working on it. Sometimes I feel like John D. Rockefeller when asked, " How much money is enough?" His response was, "Just a little bit more." Of course I am nowhere near the entrepreneur He was, but the feeling is the same. This all boils down to the tenth commandment, Thou shalt not covet. I am so guilty of that. When I receive my golf magazines, guitar magazines, etc, I believe you get the picture.

Here are some scripture references that put me in my place while studying.

  • Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content.
  • I know how to be abased, and I know also how to abound: in everything and in all things have I learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in want.
  • I can do all things in him that strengtheneth me.
  • Hebrews 13:5 Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.
  • 1Ti 6:6-12 But godliness with contentment is great gain:
  • for we brought nothing into the world, for neither can we carry anything out; but having food and covering we shall be therewith content.
  • But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition.
  • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
  • But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
  • Fight the good fight of the faith, lay hold on the life eternal, whereunto thou wast called, and didst confess the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.
I am so humbled by these verses. In whatever state I find myself in I should be content. God has blessed me with a wonderful family and health. That is enough. Thank you Lord!

Another day another.....?

You finish the phrase. What is today going to bring your way? What are you going to do for Christ? I find that it is easy to make plans to do something, but a totally different thing to put that plan into action. Make today a day that you put those plans into action. Share your faith with that friend. Call your mom and tell her you love her and while you are at it share the Gospel with her. That was directed mostly at me. Get out there and do something. We have a very short time. Peace.
